Background

IMECE is a women only organisation and was established in 1982. It is a non-profit organisation which aims to empower Turkish/Kurdish/Turkish Cypriot women through providing culturally sensitive services in Turkish language. and through raising awareness on important issues including Domestic Violence, racism and the legal rights of women. The project aims to meet these objectives by accessible information, advocacy, casework and mental health support.

The activities of the organisation have included:

• The management and administration of a wide range of services for our client groups.

• The development of new projects to meet the needs of our clients.

• Advising, assisting and supporting women in the area with their various needs including welfare benefits, domestic violence, housing, health and immigration.

• Creating partnerships for local delivery of services.

• Capacity building work with identified local BME groups that are interested in setting up domestic violence work within their organisations

• Networking with all major agencies and organisations in the locality including Islington Primary Care Trust, Islington Domestic Violence Project Team, Sure Start, Healthy Islington, NRF, European Social Fund, London Borough of Islington and Association of London Government.
